Le molybdène est [[chalcophile]], il se combine préférentiellement avec le [[soufre]] et donne la [[molybdénite]], [[minéral]] dont on l'extrait. Dérivant des [[roche]]s à molybdénite, ou apporté par des [[fumerolle]]s [[volcanique]]s, il se retrouve en solution dans les eaux ; d'où il peut, par la suite, précipiter en milieu réducteur sous forme colloïdale, et se retrouver dans des [[sédiment]]s.<br />
